Patient Rights & Responsibilities
Yonsei SaeBom Medical Clinic respects every patient’s rights throughout the treatment process and takes the provision of high-quality medical care as a core principle.
01. Patient Rights
A. Right to receive medical treatment
Patients have the right to receive appropriate healthcare services for the protection and promotion of their health. Those rights must not be infringed because of gender, age, religion, social status, or economic circumstances, and medical professionals may not refuse treatment without just cause.
B. Right to know and right of self-determination
Patients may receive explanations from the attending physician, nurse, and other professionals regarding their condition, treatment methods, participation in medical research, organ transplantation, expected outcomes including side effects, and treatment costs. Patients may ask detailed questions and decide whether to consent.
C. Right to confidentiality
Patients must not have the privacy of their body, health information, or personal life violated in relation to treatment. Medical professionals and institutions may not disclose or publish such information unless the patient consents or disclosure is required by law, such as for a criminal investigation.
D. Right to request consultation or mediation
If a dispute arises in connection with medical services, patients may seek consultation or mediation through institutions such as the Korea Medical Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Agency.
02. Patient Responsibilities
A. Duty to trust and respect medical professionals
Patients should provide accurate health-related information to medical professionals and respect the treatment plan established by those professionals.
B. Duty not to receive treatment through improper means
Patients must identify themselves before treatment and must not receive treatment by using another person’s name or by any other false or improper method.
